I bought the 4" twin shikifuton with a tatami mat, and silk pillow. J-life has offered excellent advice and reminders on how to break in and care for a cotton futon, which I appreciate. There's a bit of settling in the middle of the futon since I mostly use it for sleeping, but it's not objectionable. The tatami mat is beautiful and a pleasure to sit on when the futon is folded. The pillow is imported and needed to be well aired to dissipate the preservative chemicals. It smells fresh now and is very comfortable. Everything seems well made and fits my needs well. I might consider a futon cover if I start using this as daytime furniture, but for now two fitted sheets offers adequate protection.

I used the same mattress for about 12 years and it started to wear out. I noticed now that I started a new job and have a 10lb control box on a sling for 8 hours per day that my back started hurting and there was a dent in my mattress. I saw some people talking about futons online and looked at some overpriced ones before I found JLife International. The 4 inch futon and tatami work well to support my back and is comfortable enough for a side sleeper like myself. Also it seems to hold it's shape better with a cover that zips over the futon and it doesn't need flipped and fluffed as often.
