No Japanese home is without a Tatami Room (washitsu; 和室) which is used for a variety of purposes (eating, sleeping, watching TV). The Tatami remind the Japanese of "home" and wherever there is tatami, there is "home".
Our Tatami Mats are constructed of Japanese Rush Grass with a double layer top for extra protection. The inside is a baked Dried Rice Straw Fill for strength and durability.
Each mat is sewn with a black fabric border and bound with twine. A moisture resistant barrier is included in the foundation of the mat. Learn more about tatami mat composition here.

I was extremely excited to receive my Tatami Mat. Excellent craftsmanship and quality. My bed now feels and looks complete. I was surprised as to how much it actually weighs. It will take a few days to get use to it sleeping on it. Thank you, big fan of J-Life. A.R.

Took a week or two to get accustomed, but I am now comfortably sleeping on just a tatami. I am a side sleeper and rarely ever sleep on my back, but I got quickly used to it, and i feel my body's impact resistance toughening up over time. Aside from the conditioning period, i never wake up with any pains in the morning. Have not tried to make love on it, though. probably a good idea to save it for the couch.
