The J-Life Buckwheat Hull Pillow, or Soba Gara Makura, adheres to centuries of Japanese tradition by creating a pillow that is simple, comfortable, and durable. In Japan, the most popular type of pillow is not filled with down feathers or synthetic fiberfill. It is filled with buckwheat hulls- the tiny seed casings of the buckwheat plant.

Buckwheat husk pillows create a sleep surface that is firm yet cushioned, so it conforms perfectly to the curvature of the neck and head in any position. Buckwheat husk filling is also naturally hypoallergenic, breathable and moisture-wicking, which helps keep you cool and dry throughout the night.
The buckwheat hulls we use in our pillows are 100% organic, double cleaned, and grown here in the USA. They contain no toxic chemicals from fumigation unlike imported buckwheat hulls.

Our buckwheat pillows are available in two styles: the buckwheat neckroll pillow and the rectangular buckwheat pillow (sold separately). Faithful to Japanese tradition, your buckwheat husk pillow set is composed of:
- An outer sheath that functions like a pillowcase and is available in White Ultra Sateen or in the same matching fabric as the outer case. In Japan, the color white is considered sacred and is associated with purity, humility, and cleanliness. It holds great significance in the Shinto religion.
- An outer case made with 100% cotton imported traditional Japanese Fabric.
- 100% organic buckwheat hull filling.
You can also choose to add the calming, sleep-inducing fragrance of organic French lavender to your pillow.
All of our buckwheat sleeping pillows are handmade by skilled craftsmen and designed to last for many years. After you try it, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

We at J-Life International make every effort to ship your order timely and via the most reliable shipping method. All of our textile items are hand made in the US based upon authentic Japanese traditions and best practices. (Our Tatami Mats are imported but made from Japanese materials.) We take great pride in the production of our products and never cut a corner solely to meet a deadline. Please be patient with us, especially during especially busier production periods.
Please review your order carefully before checkout to ensure all details, including your shipping address and selected items, are correct. We’re happy to assist with changes or cancellations, but we cannot guarantee they can be made before shipment once the order has been submitted. Customers are responsible for any costs resulting from order changes or inaccuracies, including reshipment fees, carrier correction charges, or return shipping costs.

- Ships via small parcel carrier; Fedex Ground or UPS Ground.
- Leave our Massachusetts warehouse within 1-2 business days with most orders shipping within 24-hours. Orders received after end of day Friday through the weekend ship out the next business day.
- Orders containing made-to-order textile items will ship together once all items are finished. A shipping confirmation and tracking information will be sent once the entire order has been shipped.
- Orders may include more than one box and could arrive in separate deliveries. Tatami mats each ship in their own box.
- Transit times from our warehouse within the US can be seen below.

- As these are made-to-order items, they commonly require 5-7 business days to produce with most orders shipping within 5 business days.
