The cot size is perfect for my space. It is very comfortable and just what I was looking for. In lieu of a cover, I am using a flat sheet tucked around the futon which has been just fine. For others considering purchase, here are some things I was not expecting: The tatami mat is heavy and rigid. If you are planning on putting away your tatami every day, you want to consider this. Of course, the mat is suitable to be left out if your space allows. The tatami mat has a natural, sweet & earthy smell to it. It was strong at first and took me by surprise, but after a few weeks with the windows open, the smell has dissipated some and is actually quite pleasant now. I purchased the 3" futon and it is quite comfortable if I sleep on my back or stomach. A side-sleeper may want to consider the 4" I use the futon every day and would definitely recommend this site to anyone who wants to give japanese futons a try.
