Crafted by HAZE, a renowned Warōsoku maker based in Kawagoe, Saitama, this candle gift set honors centuries of Japanese craftsmanship. Using the ancient "Tegake-seihō" technique—where haze wax is applied in delicate, sequential layers—each candle is meticulously shaped by skilled artisans.
Made from the fruit of the Japanese wax tree, haze wax creates a bright, powerful flame with remarkably little soot. In true traditional fashion, production is divided into three specialized parts: the wax is crafted in Fukuoka and Nagasaki, the wicks are made in Nara, and the final candle is expertly finished in Kawagoe.
Presented in a refined wooden box and paired with purifying salt, this Warōsoku set offers a serene, meditative burn - perfect for reflection and intentional living.
Available Variations
Anicca: The Anicca candle includes natural Indian incense within its haze wax, helping to cleanse the surrounding space and encourage a sense of inner stillness. Inspired by the purifying practices of Indian ascetics - this candle evokes that same ritualistic cleansing. Gently passing your hands through the warmth above the flame offers a similarly soothing, purifying sensation.
Hemp: The Hemp (Rasen) candle is crafted with hemp charcoal powder from Miyakojima in Okinawa Prefecture, a region with deep roots in traditional craftsmanship. Hemp has long been considered a sacred plant in Japan, used in rituals to clear stagnant energy and invite harmony. The charcoal within the wax lends a grounding, cleansing presence - ideal for relaxation and creating a calm purified atmosphere.
Sage: The Sage candle is enriched with sacred herbs traditionally used in Native American rituals and prayers. As the haze wax evaporates, it releases a subtle, clarifying aroma that purifies the air and promotes spiritual grounding. Ideal for intention setting, cleansing, and creating a peaceful environment.
Salt: The Salt candle features purifying sea salt collected during high tide on the full moon in Futamiura, Ise City. This sacred salt is also offered at Ise Jingu Shrine, where the rhythm of the tides symbolizes the human cycle of life and renewal. When paired with the warm glow of a Warōsoku flame, it becomes a quiet wish for purification, vitality, and energetic clarity.
