Simply comfortable.
It has improved my sleep however; the cover should be redesigned to unzip on three sides in order to allow the cover to be laid on the tatami matt and the shikifuton to be placed on the cover to be easily zipped up. It's a little heavy.
Saving My Hips and Back!
I've been using my new shikifuton for the last week and a half, and the difference in my sleep quality has been staggering. I've always needed firmer mattresses to prevent back, neck, and hip pain but due to my weight and tossing and turning even the firmest mattress was too soft within a year. So far when I lay down to go to sleep now, I'm getting to sleep faster and staying a lot more still than I have in the past. It's been pretty wild to wake up with the covers still on and me in roughly the same position without any soreness. I will say as far as cons go they are all small and/or manageable in my opinion. The futon itself is pretty heavy so getting it into and out of the removable cover as a single person is pretty difficult. Flipping it or rotating it to make sure everything settles evenly has also been difficult because of that weight. Finally, it is a lot warmer than any mattress I've used before and I live in a high mesa desert, so we'll see as I'm heading into summer if that becomes a bigger issue. Right now it's not too bad and I am very much looking forward to the extra heat in winter. The only other potential con if you are obese like I am is that I would highly recommend getting a pillow that you can keep between your knees if you are a side sleeper. I can use my buckweat pillow or a regular pillow on my side but without the knee pillow I find that I still get a pressure point on my hip that becomes painful after a while. With the knee pillow that is completely alleviated and it helps keep my spine in alignment. I already had one and don't mind using it, but I know some folks may be uncomfortable with that set up.
