Our finely crafted Bamboo Lithophane Table Lamp adds a relaxing, warm glow with a hint of Asian style to any room in the home. Place it on a nightstand to use as a bedside table lamp, or in the living room for additional ambient lighting - it's as versatile as it is elegant.
This style of Japanese table lamp is inspired by traditional andon lamps (行灯), a type of paper lantern that was widespread in Japan in the era before electricity was easily accessible.
Handcrafted Porcelain
What makes this particular lamp special is that it is handmade using porcelain, rather than paper (like many similar lanterns are). This type of porcelain lamp uses lithophanes: extremely thin sheets of porcelain molded to varying thicknesses to create a design. Lithophanes are intended to be illuminated from behind to showcase the artwork. This art form dates back to the early 19th century in Europe.
This porcelain light features two layers of molded porcelain, giving the bamboo image depth and dimension. The detailed bamboo design is still visible when the lamp is not lit, but when the bulb is on, the exquisite craftsmanship truly shines.
