No Japanese home is without a Tatami Room (washitsu; 和室) which is used for a variety of purposes (eating, sleeping, watching TV). The Tatami remind the Japanese of "home" and wherever there is tatami, there is "home".

Our Tatami Mats are constructed of Japanese Rush Grass with a double layer top for extra protection. The inside is a baked Dried Rice Straw Fill for strength and durability.

Each mat is sewn with a black fabric border and bound with twine. A moisture resistant barrier is included in the foundation of the mat. Learn more about tatami mat composition here.

70 7/8" ( 71") X 35 3/8" x 2" high and weighs approximately 66 pounds.

Two of the original ordered mats were damaged in shipping. Replacements were re-ordered although once again delivered with the outer boxes torn-up, but the mats were OK. We would like to thank you for the prompt and excellent service provided.

One thing I would change

These mats replace ones we have had for 18 years. They are well made and perfectly sized. However, I would not give these 5 stars because they appear to be a softer construction and a less tight grass fabric than the ones we replaced. I do not think these will 18 years.
