A bodhisattva is one who has attained enlightenment, but suspends their entrance into Buddhahood in favor of helping others along their journeys toward enlightenment. Some may compare bodhisattvas to the western concept of sainthood. Jizo is the protector of all, but particularly of women and children, as well as a helper for those who are entering the afterlife.
From his calm and serene seated position on his raised pedestal, Jizo watches over all in need. Place his statue in your Zen garden or meditation space so he may bring you peace and comfort.
