The Japanese Zen garden (枯山水, karesansui) was created in the 11th century as a place for Buddhist monks to have a place of refuge and meditation within nature while still within the confines of their monasteries. Usually walled in like a courtyard, these gardens were kept free from distractions and interruptions from the outside world, allowing the monks to contemplate the teachings of Buddha and the natural world in total peace. These gardens were carefully designed and maintained by the monks and each element, from the shape of the rocks to color of the sand, was deeply symbolic to them.
Place our authentic mini Zen garden at your desk while you work from home, in the office, or wherever you need a little piece of nature as a way to relax and de-stress throughout the day. Or, gift it to someone and practice your Dānapāramī(virtue of generosity.)
Purchase our additional mini rakes separately (pictured) here to make your sand art even more interesting and enjoyable to create. Additional moss to make your mini garden more lively or to display elsewhere is also available here.
