No Japanese home is without a Tatami Room (washitsu; 和室) which is used for a variety of purposes (eating, sleeping, watching TV). The Tatami remind the Japanese of "home" and wherever there is tatami, there is "home".
Our Tatami Mats are constructed of Japanese Rush Grass with a double layer top for extra protection. The inside is a baked Dried Rice Straw Fill for strength and durability.
Each mat is sewn with a black fabric border and bound with twine. A moisture resistant barrier is included in the foundation of the mat. Learn more about tatami mat composition here.
70 7/8" ( 71") X 35 3/8" x 2" high and weighs approximately 66 pounds.

I use this under an American style matress on my bedframe. My bedfram has good wooden slats, but it did not lead to a really comfortable night's rest, so I added this as it is smaller then a box spring. It has been really nice so far. Gives a small amount of spring to the matress and since the bed has good airflow and I don't live in a humid climate there have been no issues.

I grew up as a village girl sleeping on tatami mats. Coming to the states has changed that. But due to chronic back pain I recently started researching where I could get one here if they even have it here. Well! My internet search has brought me to your website and boom my back got saved from pain. I am sleeping well again and the best part is my chronic back pain is slowly vanishing. Getting the tatami mat also brought back lots of childhood memories. The smell just overwhelmed me with nostalgia. Happy tears though
